Intro to Nature Journaling - July

Sunday, July 7, 2024
1:00pm - 4:00pm

Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, Day Use Area

Registration Fee: $45

Join us to explore how we can use drawing as a tool to deepen our relationship with nature.

Through a series of warm-up exercises and guided prompts, we will flex our creative muscles, let go of perfectionism, and open our minds to what nature wants to show us. These exercises are great for any age and level of experience. You don’t have to consider yourself an artist or even feel like you are good at drawing to participate in these practices–in fact, you are highly encouraged to join if that is how you feel! This isn’t a traditional how-to-draw class, and yet you will walk away with more confidence with a pen in your hand, a few pages of your sketchbook filled, and a feeling of reinvigorated connection with our natural world.

We will move at a naturalist's pace, not a hiker's pace. We will spend more time sitting than walking, so you may want to bring a portable chair if you prefer not to sit on the ground. Please bring something to draw on, such as a sketchbook or clipboard with paper, and materials to draw with (pen, pencil, colored pencils, markers). Watercolor pocket sets will be available to borrow if you’d like to try your hand at painting. Bring water, and a snack if you wish.

Meet in front of the Nature Store in the day-use area of Henry Cowell. Those who register will receive more detailed directions and information via email.
