A Fond Farewell to the Lobster Feed

Thank You for 30 Incredible Years

Dear Friends,

For three decades, our beloved Lobster Feed Fundraiser has brought our community together under the towering redwoods in celebration of nature, connection, and shared commitment to our treasured state parks, Henry Cowell and Big Basin. It has been a joyful tradition—filled with laughter, music, and the unmistakable scent of melted butter and fresh seafood—that we know so many of you have looked forward to each year.

It is with a full heart and deep appreciation for all who have made this event so special that I share this news: Mountain Parks Foundation will be discontinuing the annual Lobster Feed, beginning this year.

This was not an easy decision. The Lobster Feed has long been a symbol of our community spirit and a meaningful way for us to connect with supporters like you. However, two primary factors have led us to this moment:

First, we take our role as environmental stewards seriously. As a nonprofit rooted in the protection and appreciation of nature, we feel a responsibility to align our actions with the values we advocate. We feel it is the right time to explore new ways of gathering that leave a lighter ecological footprint.

Second, we are very mindful of the financial implications of our work. While this event has offered value far beyond revenue alone, we continually assess our initiatives based on how well they advance our core mission: supporting California’s redwood state parks and inspiring future generations of park stewards. Unfortunately, the Lobster Feed no longer aligns with this mission in a way that justifies its continuation.

We know this event holds a special place in many hearts. To all who have attended, volunteered, donated, and shared in this tradition over the years—thank you. Your support has directly contributed to the care of Big Basin and Henry Cowell Redwoods State Parks, helped fund educational programs for millions of visitors, and ensured these iconic places remain protected and accessible for all.

While we say goodbye to the Lobster Feed, we are excited to focus on new ways to engage with our community and raise vital funds for the parks we love. We invite you to stay connected, attend our Redwood Rx events, explore volunteer opportunities, shop in our Nature Store, and continue supporting our mission in ways that reflect our shared commitment to nature and community.

Together, we’ve done something truly special. And together, we will continue to protect and uplift the redwood forests that inspire us all.
