A Message from the Executive Director
December 2011
Dear Friends of Our Redwoods State Parks
This holiday season I find myself deeply grateful to our community for its support of Mountain Parks Foundation over the past 38 years. Together, we have provided educational opportunities and enhanced visitor experiences in our magnificent Henry Cowell and Big Basin Redwoods State Parks.
California's budget crisis and our ailing economy have hit all of us hard. Earlier this year, Governor Brown announced plans to close 70 state parks by next July. If these closures occur, Brown will become the first governor in our state's history to close parks.
As we face unprecedented threats to California's state park system, our own parks need us now more than ever! Mountain Parks Foundation has been working diligently to expand our capacity to respond to the increased needs of our local state parks. With our restructuring this fall, MPF is now even better positioned to support access to the natural, cultural, educational and recreational opportunities offered at Henry Cowell and Big Basin Redwoods State Parks in the years ahead.
Areas of work for MPF in the coming year will include:
- Serving as a source of funding for interpretive and educational programs highlighting the unique offerings of Henry Cowell and Big Basin Redwoods State Parks;
- Encouraging environmental education and visitation of our local state parks by supporting Ohlone Day, Founders Day, Bug Day, Campfire Programs, and Junior Rangers, to name just a few of the many programs offered,
- Cultivating stewardship of our state parks by introducing a new generation of park visitors to opportunities to get involved in programs and activities that support our parks.
Please join us in support of our local state parks by making a generous donation to Mountain Parks Foundation today. To donate online, please go to mountainparks.org/donate for a single donation or you can support us with monthly giving here: mountainparks.org/donate/monthly-giving/ . You may send your check to Mountain Parks Foundation, 525 N. Big Trees Park Rd., Felton, CA 95018. Phone donations are also welcome by calling Mountain Parks Foundation at (831) 335-3174.
With warm wishes for a wonderful holiday and many thanks,

Brenda Holmes
